"Planning the Crossing" by Kimberly Erickson.
What happens when a shy girl brings together a seagull who's afraid to fly, a mysterious rabbit, and a squirrel loaded with more energy than brains? Tristan's Travels is a lighthearted middle grade novel. The tale is set primarily in Astoria, situated on the beautiful north coast of Oregon--where the Columbia River empties into the Pacific Ocean at the dangerous Columbia River Bar. The tale follows the misadventures of Tristan and his trusted companions as they endeavor to accomplish the impossible. It shows the young (and the young at heart) how to overcome fear with love. It is illustrated by Kimberly Erickson.
This tale will be available from Rafka Press for Fall 2010.
